When I read this account, it seems to me that God is not threatened by the height of the tower, but rather it's the fact that humans were able to work together to design and build such a thing and invent the processes necessary to make the materials and do the construction work. It is a very petty outlook, almost as if God is saying to himself "look at all they can do on their own, pretty soon they won't need me at all".

The tower of Babel- full of holes?
by highdose ini was thinking the other day about the tower of babel ( like you do) somthing that always puzzled me about reading the account in our modern day times is that we have today buildings that would have been vastly taller than the tower of babel.
even if purely because the materials needed to build modern sky scrapers have to be light in order to acheive that height.
accient heavy bricks just wouldn't have done it.. just why was god so threatened by a building???

Why Can JWs Eat Turkey On Thanksgiving & Still Say They Aren't Celebrating?
by minimus ini don't get it.. the idea is that it's ok to eat food on any day as everyday is a day of thanksgiving.
it was the only holiday that i knew witnesses to celebrate.. .

I also never heard of a post Christmas gift day or any sort of un-birthday celebrations. The only things that were considered acceptable were baby showers, bridal showers, graduation parties, weddings, and anniversaries. The anniversary celebrations were only done for major milestone years - 25 years, 40 years, 50 years. Otherwise, it was kept to just the immediate family. If the local dubs were doing anything else, I never heard about it.
The one major party every year was the Super Bowl party. We didn't get invited this year.

I don't know about the local dubs. If any of them cooked a turkey on Thanksgiving, I sure never heard about it. I got the distinct impression that it was not considered proper. I got a lot of flak for not going out in field circus on that Thursday and Friday. I tried it a couple of times, but it was just so awful interrupting people who were trying to get a big meal together or trying to get ready to go somewhere.

I never so much as conducted a bible study with anyone. It was my fault that Just Ron and our kids got sucked into the borg though. Thankfully, we all got out together.

I can't speak to the economics of large scale solar power systems. I do know that when gas prices went up after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, our lifestyle changed a lot. We were driving a Ford F350 crew cab truck as a family vehicle - the gas mileage on that beast is about 12 miles a gallon on a good day. We stopped driving that truck unless absolutely necessary, and we severely curtailed all our driving. We eventually bought a much more fuel efficient vehicle for regular use, but we still limit our driving compared to our pre-2005 habits. That new vehicle is 18 months old now and still has only 13,000 miles. That means we average using about 30 gallons of gas per month. We really can't cut much more driving out, and we can't get anything any more fuel efficient that will seat all 5 of us. Since we don't really use a lot of gas, it has to go up a lot to be a major pinch. My job pays me mileage for driving my personal car to and from my job sites (and that's all I use my car for), so it doesn't factor into my budget. If I had to pay to commute to work, it would add up in a hurry.

Random Questions
by DT ini just had some random thoughts and questions and decided it might be tiresome to start a different thread for each one, so i'm consolidating.. suppose someone had a sign showing a picture of a gun pointed at you and a caption saying "this shun gun is pointed at you.
" then suppose this sign was shown to visiting jehovah's witnesses without saying a single word.
how do you think they would react?.

Yes, it's a chicken salad salad. I eat my tuna salad and egg salad that way too. I don't really like sandwiches very much, although hot sandwiches are better than cold sandwiches. I used to put mustard on my grilled cheese sandwiches, but I got out of the habit. One time I made homemade bread and used it to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for our lunch at assembly. I believe that was the best peanut butter and jelly sandwich ever.
This now concludes my annual lecture on the relative merits of various sandwiches. There will be a pop quiz on Monday.

I was 100% dedicated to the idea of becoming a JW. I tried really hard to make it work for my family and me. Then one time I was sitting in a district convention and it just hit me like a ton of bricks "I don't want to be here". I stuffed that thought down and carried on for several years, but it got harder and harder to pretend I cared or was interested. When I finally "came clean" about my feelings to Just Ron, I had no compelling alternative other than I wanted to finally be honest about what I really wanted to do with my time.

I hate chicken salad sandwiches. I only like chicken salad on lettuce.
I would choose a fazoli's restaurant on my desert island.

Any of you folks from the awesome state of Colorado??
by SweetBabyCheezits inmy wife and i are thinking of moving our family to a better place in the us....away from jw family and out of the southern bible belt.
just curious how many of you live around co and, more specifically, near fort collins?
of course, we're open to any city that is less conservative and has awesome summer weather and outdoor activities.

I have a cousin (not a JW) who lives in Colorado Springs. We went out once to visit when I was 13 - it was really nice out there.
